Sakae [town] - Sakae
A town in Inba County, northern Chiba Prefecture. The Tone River flows east along the border with Ibaraki Prefecture to the north, and the town faces Lake Inban to the south. The town area is mostly flat. The main settlement, Ajiki, was located on the pilgrimage route to Naritasan from the Tone River in the early modern period and flourished as a post town, but after the opening of the Narita Line, it lost its commercial area to Narita City and temporarily declined. In recent years, it has become increasingly urbanized and the population has increased. Rice is grown. Ryukakuji Temple (with its Yakushi Nyorai statue designated as an Important Cultural Property) is located in the east. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 32.51 km2 . 22,580 people (2010).

Sakae [town] [Sakae]

A former town in Minamikanbara district, central Niigata prefecture. It borders Mitsuke city to the south and Sanjo city to the north. The Shinetsu Main Line and National Route 8 pass through the town. Rice farming is thriving. Steel and metal companies have established operations here, and an industrial complex has been developed. In May 2005, it was incorporated into Shimoda village in Minamikanbara district and Sanjo city. 45.22 km2 . Population: 11,910 (2003).

千葉県北部,印旛(いんば)郡の町。北の茨城県境を利根川が東流,南部は印旛沼に面し,町域はおおむね平地。主集落の安食(あじき)は近世利根川筋からの成田山参拝路にあたり宿場町として栄えたが,成田線開通後は成田市に商圏を奪われて一時衰微。近年は都市化が進み,人口も増加。米作を行う。東部に竜角寺(薬師如来像は重文)がある。東日本大震災で,町内において被害が発生。32.51km2。2万2580人(2010)。

新潟県中部,南蒲原(みなみかんばら)郡の旧町。南に見附(みつけ)市,北に三条市と接する。信越本線,国道8号線が通じる。稲作が盛ん。鉄鋼,金属などの企業が進出し,工業団地も造成された。2005年5月南蒲原郡下田村と三条市へ編入。45.22km2。1万1910人(2003)。
