...In the 1930s, the Government-General of Korea attempted to regulate the landlord system to some extent and secure the economic status of tenant farmers (such as by enacting the Agricultural Land Act), but this was largely ineffective. Even after the 1930s, when the landlord system in Japan entered a period of decline, the landlord system in Korea continued to grow, culminating in Japan's defeat in 1945.
[Dismantling period]
After liberation, momentum for land reform quickly grew in North Korea, and in March 1946 the North Korean Land Reform Act was issued, confiscating all land owners of 5 cho or more of land free of charge and wiping out the landlord system. Meanwhile, in South Korea, farmers' voices calling for land reform grew louder immediately after liberation, but it was not carried out immediately due to resistance from landlords and the wishes of the American occupation forces, and after several twists and turns regarding the implementation policy, the Revised Land Reform Act was finally enacted in March 1950, and the landlord system was abolished based on the principle of confiscation and sale for compensation.

　解放後，北朝鮮ではいち早く土地改革の機運が高まり，1946年3月には北朝鮮土地改革法令が発布され，5町歩以上所有者の土地はすべて無償で没収されて，地主制は一掃された。一方，南朝鮮でも解放直後から土地改革を求める農民の声は高まったが，地主の抵抗やアメリカ占領軍のおもわくからただちには実行されず，実施方針をめぐって二転三転を経たのち，50年3月にようやく改正農地改革法が成立し，有償没収･有償払下げ原則による地主制の廃止が実現された。…
