An old town in Saihaku District, western Tottori Prefecture. The main settlement, Hosshoji, is located in the upper reaches of the Hosshoji River, a tributary of the Hino River, and was a post town in the early modern period. In the mountainous area upstream, tatara ironworks were popular. The town produces rice, Japanese beef, and forest products, and is known for Hosshoji ware. Higashinagata is a habitat for Japanese giant salamanders (a special natural monument). In October 2004, it merged with Aimi Town, Saihaku District, to become Nanbu Town. 83.08 km2 .
