Also known as "Seinan". Capital of Shandong Province, China. Junction of the Jinghu (Beijing - Shanghai) and Jiaoji (Jinan - Qingdao) railways. The Yellow River flows to the northwest of the city, and the Xiaoqing River originates within the city, making it a convenient transportation center and a distribution center for goods both within and outside the province. It is the second largest industrial city in the province, with industries including flour milling, spinning, machinery, matches, cement, and food. Home to Lu Xun University (formerly Shandong University), Shandong Medical University, and Shandong Institute of Technology. There are many scenic spots and historical sites within and outside the city, such as Daming Lake and Thousand Buddhas Mountain. Population: 3.52 million (2014).

〈せいなん〉とも。中国，山東省の省都。京滬(けいこ)（北京〜上海）・膠済（済南〜青島）両鉄路の連絡地。市の北西を黄河が流れ，市内に小清河が発源し，交通至便で省内外物資の集散地である。工業は省内第２位で製粉，紡績，機械，マッチ，セメント，食品などの諸工業がある。魯迅大学（旧山東大学），山東医学院，山東工学院などがある。市内外には大明湖，千仏山など名勝・史跡が多い。352万人（2014）。
