Sinus gland - sinus gland

An organ located in the eye stalk or near the brain of crustaceans, also called the blood sinus gland. It was once thought to be a place where hormones were produced, but is now thought to be a terminal neurovascular organ where neurosecretory substances produced by neurosecretory cells in the X organ in the brain or eye stalk are stored and released through axons. Hormones released into the blood here include molting inhibitor hormone (a hormone that inhibits the function of the Y organ, which produces molting hormone) and ovarian maturation inhibitor hormone produced in the X organ, several hormones produced in the brain that are related to body color change, and hormones that regulate blood sugar levels.

甲殻類の眼柄中あるいは脳に近接して存在する器官で、血洞腺ともいう。かつてはホルモンを生産する場と考えられたこともあったが、現在では、脳あるいは眼柄中のX器官の神経分泌細胞でつくられた神経分泌物質が、軸索を通ってここで貯蔵・放出される末端の神経血管器官であると考えられている。ここで血液中に放出されるホルモンには、X器官で生産される脱皮抑制ホルモン（脱皮ホルモンをつくるY器官の働きを抑制するホルモン）および卵巣成熟抑制ホルモン、脳で生産され体色変化に関係するいくつかのホルモンのほか、血糖量調節の働きがあるホルモンなどがある。
