A cultural movement widespread among the peoples of Eastern Europe from the late 18th century to the 1970s. The revival was called obrození (Czech), obrodenie (Slovak), preporod (Croatian), vazrazhdane (Bulgarian), renaştere (Romanian), and other terms, but similar phenomena existed among peoples for whom such terms did not come into common usage.
