A Korean scholar and philosopher of the late Joseon Dynasty. His pen name was Unro, and his pen names were Hyegang or Hudong. He was born in Saognyeong. He passed the civil service examination in 1825, but did not take up any official position, instead devoting himself to reading and writing. His collected works include Myeongnamruju, which covers a wide range of subjects from astronomy, geography, and mathematics to social thought. His Qisoktaigi is a masterpiece of empiricist philosophy, and in Human Affairs (1860) and other works he developed social thought, such as advocating a method of developing human resources based on ability. 朝鮮,李朝後期の実学者であり哲学者。字は芸老(うんろう),号は恵崗または浿東。朔寧の人。1825年に科挙に合格したが官職には就かず,読書と著作に専念した。著作集に《明南楼集》があるが,その内容は天文学,地理学,数学から社会思想に至る広範囲のもので,《気測体義》は経験主義哲学の代表作であり,《人政》(1860)その他で能力による人材開発の方法を主張するなどの社会思想を展開した。【姜 在 彦】
