Ge'ez. Classical Ethiopian, which belongs to the South Semitic languages along with North and South Arabia. It was established several centuries before Christ, when South Arabian speakers migrated to Ethiopia, based on the Cushitic languages. The oldest inscription dates back to the 4th century. Since the 10th century, it has been used exclusively as the religious and literary language of the Ethiopian Church. In modern Ethiopia, there are 70 to 80 languages in use, including Amharic and Tigrinya, and they are collectively called Ethiopian languages.
