Bioherms are mound-, dome-, lenticular-, or reef-shaped rock masses, composed mostly of the calcareous remains of sessile organisms such as corals, crinoids, foraminifera, mollusks, and stromatoporoidea, and are surrounded by sedimentary rocks of a different rock type.
