A general term for birds of the family Ant-pididae in the order Passeriformes. There are many species in the family Ant-pididae with the Japanese name "Arisazai", but this family consists of 11 species in total, including 9 species in the genus Ant-pididae and 2 species in the genus A. nigricans, which were transferred from the family A. nigricans. Total length 10-18cm. Their wings are short compared to their bodies, their legs are slightly longer, and they have a stocky build like a fairy. Most of their feather colors are dull, such as reddish brown, gray, or black. One species in the genus A. nigricans is found in Central America, but the others are found in the rainforests of the Amazon River basin and the Andes in South America. They live alone near the ground in the thick vegetation of the forest, and although their ecology is not yet well understood, some species follow the march of army ants and eat insects that are chased away.
