The largest company in the Czech Republic, a comprehensive machinery group. Its headquarters are in Prague. It began as a small machinery factory in Plzeň in 1859. In 1866, E. von Škoda joined as chief engineer, took over the factory in 1869, and it developed into a machinery and weapons factory. In 1899, it became the Škoda Industrial Company. It was nationalized in 1946, and now has numerous factories across the country, including the former Škoda main factory in Plzeň, producing machine tools, ships, aircraft, weapons, and more. It has a history of automobile production dating back to 1905. In 1991, the Czech government, after consultation with Volkswagen, decided to privatize Škoda, and in 2000 the Volkswagen Group acquired 100% of Škoda's shares. Therefore, Škoda brand cars are currently produced by Volkswagen. → Related article Pilsen Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
