The part of the soil that is directly affected by roots. It is a part of the plowed soil that is different from other parts of the plowed soil due to the action of the roots, and has characteristics such as carbon dioxide production and oxygen consumption due to the roots' respiration, changes in nutrient composition and pH due to the roots' absorption of nutrients and water, root secretions, and high microbial activity due to the effects of root hair loss. 土壌で直接根の作用を受ける部分。作土の一部で根の作用によって他の作土部分と異なっている部分で，根の呼吸作用に伴う炭酸の生産と酸素の消費が行われ，根が養水分を吸収するために養分組成や pHの変化，および根の分泌物があり，根毛が脱落するなどの影響があるために微生物活性が高い，などの特徴がある。
