Colombo Plan

Also known as the Colombo Plan, it is an economic cooperation organization whose establishment was decided at the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers' Conference held in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in January 1950. Its original purpose was to provide financial and technical assistance to developing countries in the region (South Asia and Southeast Asia) and promote their economic development within the framework of the Commonwealth, based on financial contributions from developed countries in the region. Its organizational structure consists of the highest decision-making body, the Consultative Committee (which holds an annual meeting), its subordinate body, the Technical Cooperation Council (which implements aid plans and meets every 2-3 months by representatives of each country stationed in Sri Lanka), and the Secretariat (in Colombo).

コロンボ計画ともいう。1950年1月にセイロン(現，スリランカ)で開催されたイギリス連邦外相会議により設立が決定された経済協力機構であり，本来，イギリス連邦の枠内で域内先進国からの資金拠出を基盤に，資金的，技術的に域内(南アジア，東南アジア)発展途上国を援助し，その経済開発を促進しようとしたものである。組織としては，最高意思決定機関の協議委員会(年1回年次会議を開催)と，その下部機関としての技術協力審議会(援助計画の実施機関で，スリランカ駐在の各国代表により2～3ヵ月ごとに開催)，および事務局(コロンボ)がある。
