A choral dance company. In Greek drama, a group of actors who participate in the play as commentators and critics, separate from the direct development of the plot. In early plays, the chorus (koros) played a major role, but in later plays, its importance decreased, and in Euripides' works it became almost nominal. The number of choruses also decreased from 50 in the time of Thespis to 15 at the end of the 5th century BC, and finally disappeared from the works of Roman playwrights such as Terencius and Plautus. However, in the 20th century, the function of the chorus was reintroduced in some plays, such as T.S. Eliot's Murder in the Temple (1935) and A. Miller's A View from the Bridge (55).
