Fireproofing coating

Also known as fire-resistant paint. A general term for special paints that are applied to wood to make it difficult for it to ignite or burn. It is composed of pigments, vehicles, and diluents, and its effectiveness is achieved through the vehicle. There are the following types: (1) A vehicle in which an alkali silicate is dissolved in water and pigments such as clay, talc, or asbestos are added. (2) A pigment is mixed into an aqueous solution of a flame-retardant substance such as casein. Furthermore, (3) is a mixture of (1) and (2). Recently, there are types in which chlorinated paraffin and other substances are added to polyvinyl chloride and pigments are mixed into this.

Fireproof paints have high fireproofing properties when the volume of pigment in the paint is 50% or more, or when the pigment contains 20% or more of antimony oxide _Sb2O3 . Also, when the amount of chlorinated paraffin in the paint is 30% to ₅₅ %, the fireproofing properties are high. This is also the case when the content of polyvinyl chloride itself is 40% or more.

耐火塗料ともいう。木材に塗装してその引火および燃焼を困難にする特殊塗料の総称。組成として顔料、ビヒクル（展色料）、希釈剤からなり、ビヒクルによってその効力を発生する。次のようなものがある。（1）ビヒクルとしてケイ酸アルカリを水に溶解し、それにクレー、タルク、アスベストなどの顔料を加えたもの。（2）カゼインのような難燃性物質の水溶液に顔料を混合したもの。さらに（3）として、（1）と（2）の混合したものがある。最近ではポリ塩化ビニルに塩化パラフィンなどを加え、これに顔料を配合したものがある。

　防火塗料は塗料中の顔料の容積が50％以上のとき、または顔料成分中の酸化アンチモンSb₂O₃が20％以上含まれていると防火性が大になる。また、塗料中の塩化パラフィンの量が30％ないし55％のとき防火性は大である。ポリ塩化ビニルのそれ自身の含量で40％以上のときである。
