Employment index - index of employment

Employment index - index of employment

In order to clarify the fluctuations in employment, the number of employees at a certain point in time is set as the base (100) and the number of employees at each point in time (month or year) is shown as an index. In Japan, 1995 (Heisei 7) is used as the base year, and the regular employment index has been compiled going back to 1970 (Showa 45). The regular employment index is compiled based on data on the number of regular employees from the "Monthly Labor Survey" (Designated Statistics No. 7) and the "Establishment and Enterprise Statistics Survey" (Designated Statistics No. 2). "Regular employees" here refer to those who are employed daily or for a fixed period of less than one month, or those who have been employed for 18 days or more in each of the last two months, as well as full-time executives, full-time family workers, etc. This index is calculated based on the estimated number of workers at the end of each month obtained from the Monthly Labor Survey targeting establishments that regularly employ 30 or more people, and using as a benchmark (estimated standard) the number of regular employees from the Establishment and Enterprise Statistics Survey, which is conducted as a complete enumeration of establishments nationwide every five years. It is compiled by industry (up to intermediate classification for manufacturing industries) and published by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in publications such as the Monthly Labor Survey Report, the Monthly Labor Survey Report, and the Annual Labor Statistics Report.
