〘 noun 〙① Baggage carried by horses during marches and other occasions. [Essays, Koshi Yawa (1821-41)]② = konidauma (small pack horses) [Nippo Jisho (1603-04)]③ In the Muromachi period, a packhorse platoon carried military provisions, equipment, and the like to the battlefield. Accompanied by many packhorses, carriages, foot soldiers, and battle men, they were deployed at the rear of the battle lines as they were weak in combat. ※Koyo Gunkan (early 17th century), item 35 "When retreating, the first thing that causes defeat is the destruction of the small pack horses (konida) ."④ Military food. Military provisions. ※Uesugi Family Documents - (Eiroku 12) (1569), February 29th, letter from Hojo Ujiyasu "The enemy's small pack horses were counted and over 50 were killed and captured, and we have reported this."
