Infinite product

Japanese: 無限積 - むげんせき（英語表記）infinite product

Also known as an infinite product. Let { a _n } be a given sequence of numbers, none of which are zero. The formal product a ₁ a ₂ a ₃ … is called an infinite product, or written as Π a _n . The product of the first n terms p _n = a ₁ a ₂ … a _n is called the nth partial product. When the sequence { p _n } converges to a nonzero limit value p , the initial infinite product is said to converge to p , and written as Π a _n = p . When { p _n } does not converge or converges to 0, the infinite product is said to diverge. If Π a _n converges, then a _n →1, but the converse is not true.

無限乗積ともいう。｛a_n｝を与えられた数列とし，いずれも0でないとする。形式的な積a₁a₂a₃……を無限積といい，またはΠa_nと書く。最初のn項の積p_n＝a₁a₂……a_nを第n部分積という。数列｛p_n｝が0でない極限値pに収束するときには，初めの無限積はpに収束するといい，Πa_n＝pと書く。｛p_n｝が収束しないか，または0に収束するとき，無限積は発散するという。Πa_nが収束すればa_n→1であるが，逆は成立しない。
