Ryunosuke Goto

Japanese: 後藤隆之助 - ごとうりゅうのすけ
Ryunosuke Goto

Politician. Graduated from the law department of Kyoto Imperial University. While a student, he struck up a friendship with Konoe Fumimaro, and thereafter served as Konoe's close aide. In 1933 (Showa 8), in preparation for the establishment of a Konoe government, he established the Showa Study Group and engaged in research into national reorganization. In 1937, he served as a staff officer in the formation of the first Konoe cabinet. In 1938, he founded the Showa Juku, which was based on the Showa Study Group, and became its president. In 1940, he supported the Konoe New Regime movement, serving as a permanent executive of the New Regime Preparation Committee and head of the Organization Bureau of the Imperial Rule Assistance Association. However, he resigned as head due to "Red" attacks by ideological right-wingers. After World War II, he served as a director of the Japan Youth Center and also headed the Showa Dojinkai.
