Cord - Cord (English spelling)

Cord - Cord (English spelling)

A type of electric wire. It is made by twisting together many (20-112) thin conductors (soft copper wires with a diameter of 0.12-0.32 mm) with a cross-sectional area of 0.5-5.5 square mm, and is covered with rubber such as natural rubber, SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber), chloroprene rubber, EPM (ethylene-propylene rubber, also abbreviated as EPR), or polyvinyl chloride, and is mainly paired in pairs. It is easy to bend and move around, so it is mainly used indoors. It is used in small electrical equipment with an AC voltage of 300 volts or less, and there are the following types depending on the purpose and structure, all of which are specified by JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards).

[Teruo Sakuma and Yoshiji Oki]

Rubber cord

It is used for indoor hanging lights, etc. Because it uses rubber as an insulator, it has better heat resistance than polyvinyl chloride, but because cotton thread is used for the external braiding, it is vulnerable to moisture. There are twisted cords made by twisting single-core cords together, spun cords made by braiding cotton thread on a twisted cord, and round spun cords made by inserting an intermediate thread between the cores of spun cords to give them a round finish.

Vinyl cord

It is used in electrical appliances used indoors, such as electric fans and refrigerators. Because it uses polyvinyl chloride as the insulator, it can be colored freely and has a beautiful appearance.

Vinyl cabtyre(cabtire) cord

The insulation is thin, at 0.6 millimeters, and the conductor is made of twisted cores covered with insulation, making it highly flexible and used in power cords for retractable vacuum cleaners and other devices.

ビニルキャブタイヤコードvinyl cabtyre(cabtire) cord
