A family of hereditary Noh mask makers from the early modern period. It began when Omi Mitsumasa (died 1704), who was a disciple of the fourth head of the Echizen Deme family, Motoyasu Mitsunaga (Furumotokyu), and was later adopted by the family, left the family after a falling out, set up a family in Kyoto, and took the surname Kodama. Mitsumasa is said to be the last mask maker of early modern Noh masks. The second and third generations both took the name Choemon, but were unsuccessful, and the names of his disciples Miyata Chikugo and Umeoka Jirobei are better known.
