Autoprotolysis

The greatest feature of these liquids is that they have a high dissolving power not only for inorganic compounds but also for some organic compounds, and they undergo autoprotolysis similar to that of water, as shown in the following formula. Liquid iodine (I _{2 )} , acetic anhydride (CH ₃ CO) ₂ O, etc. may also be included, and the term may refer to non-aqueous solvents that are used by liquefying them under pressure or by liquefying them under cooling.
