Year of death: 22 October 1842 (27 November 842) Year of birth: Enryaku 11 (792) He was the first child of Emperor Heizei in the early Heian period, and his mother was Fujiko Kuzui (also known as Bancho Fujihime). He was implicated in the Kusuko Incident in September 810 and demoted to Dazai Gonsochi (his older brother Prince Takaoka was deposed as Crown Prince), but was pardoned and returned to Kyoto in 824. While in Dazaifu (Dazaifu City), he gave birth to Nakahira and Yukihira, but after returning to Kyoto he married Princess Ito (the daughter of Emperor Kanmu), with whom he had a son, Narihira. In 1703, he petitioned the shogunate, requesting that his sons be given surnames in the same way as Prince Takaoka's sons and daughters, and Nakahira, Yukihira and Morihira were given the surname Ariwara no Ason. He had other children, such as the main family, but their mothers were different from those of Nakahira and Narihira. He served as governor of Kazusa, Shimousa, Kozuke, and Shimotsuke, the provinces to which the prince was appointed, and in July 842, when Ban Takemine, who was a sword-holder at the Shungu-bo, and Tachibana Hayasaka, the governor of Tajima, plotted a rebellion, he was asked by Takemine to step in, but the prince himself informed the Empress Dowager Tachibana Kachiko, and the plan ended in failure (the Jowa Incident). There are things said to be his grave in Ashiya City and elsewhere. (Murai Yasuhiko) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
