Kikuo Kojima

Art historian. Born in Tokyo. Graduated from the College of Letters of Tokyo Imperial University in 1913 (Taisho 2), and then majored in Western art history at the graduate school. Became a professor at Gakushuin in 1920, studied in Europe the following year, and returned to Japan in 1951. In 1935 (Showa 10), he transferred from Tohoku Imperial University to Tokyo Imperial University, where he became an associate professor and then a professor, eventually retiring in 1948. He also took up the paintbrush himself, and was friends with artists such as Yasui Sotaro, and was also active as a critic. His books include "A Tour of Western Art Museums," "An Introduction to Art," and "Greek Scissors."

美術史家。東京生まれ。1913年（大正2）東京帝国大学文科大学を卒業、続いて大学院で西洋美術史を専攻した。20年学習院教授となり、翌年ヨーロッパに留学、26年に帰国した。35年（昭和10）東北帝国大学から東京帝国大学に転じ、助教授、教授となり、48年定年により退官した。自ら画筆もとり、安井曽太郎(そうたろう)ら画家たちとも交友があり、批評家としても活躍した。著書に『西洋美術館めぐり』『美術概論』『希臘(ギリシア)の鋏(はさみ)』などがある。
