Polish soldier and politician. Known as the father of the independence movement. After studying in France, he served as an aide-de-camp to Washington during the American Revolutionary War, and returned to Poland in 1784 to participate in the liberal reform movement. After the Second Partition of Poland in 1794, he led an armed uprising and was captured by Russian troops. He was pardoned and later died in Switzerland. ポーランドの軍人，政治家。独立運動の父と呼ばれる。フランス留学後アメリカ独立革命の戦争でワシントンの副官となり，1784年帰国して自由主義的改革運動に参加。第２次ポーランド分割後の1794年武装蜂起(ほうき)を指導してロシア軍に捕らえられ，特赦後スイスで客死。
