Goshikigahara

Japanese: 五色ヶ原 - ごしきがはら

A lava plateau in the southeastern part of Toyama Prefecture, straddling Oyama Town and Tateyama Town in Kamishinkawa County. It was formed by the Tateyama volcano. Its elevation is 2,300-2,500m, and its area is approximately 2km2. It is said that the place name arose from the alpine marshland where a variety of alpine plants bloom in abundance. On the caldera wall on the west side are Tonbiyama (2,616m) and Washidake (2,625m). It is the base for climbing Mt. Tateyama and Mt. Yakushi, and from here, crossing Kariyasu Pass to the east, there is a ferry for climbers from Hiranogoya on the shore of Lake Kurobe to Hirano Ferry Terminal. [Fujimori Tsutomu]

富山県の南東部，上新川郡大山町と立山町にまたがる溶岩台地。立山火山によって形成された。標高2300～2500m，面積約2km2。高山性湿原にさまざまな高山植物が咲き乱れるところから地名が生じたとされる。西側のカルデラ壁に鳶（とんび）山(2616m)，鷲岳(2625m)がある。立山，薬師岳への登山基地であり，またここから東へ刈安峠を越えて黒部湖岸の平ノ小屋から平ノ渡場まで登山者用の渡しがある。【藤森勉】
