oilphilic radical

...A group of atoms in a molecule that hates water, has no affinity for water, has a high affinity for oil, and is insoluble in water. It is also called an oilphilic radical. Typical examples are hydrocarbon chains such as the alkyl group C _n H _{2 n +1} -- and the aryl group C ₆ H ₅ --.
