A perennial plant of the Cyperaceae family (APG classification: Cyperaceae). It grows 30-60cm tall and has long runners. It produces 1-3 elliptical female spikelets, measuring 1-2cm. They are shaped like large confetti candy and stand out. The sacs are about 1cm long, and the Japanese name comes from the large size of the sacs. It is also called Mikurisuge because the spikelets resemble the shape of the Mikuri fruit. It grows in colonies in wet and marshy areas of Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. [Eiichiro Kinoshita July 19, 2019] [Reference] |There are 1 to 3 female spikelets, which are oval and look like large confetti, making them very conspicuous.
