International Financial Cooperation

International Financial Cooperation
In light of the devastating experiences of the Great Depression of the 1930s, which were caused by countries adopting policies to impoverish their neighbors (specifically, competitive devaluations of exchange rates, strengthening of exchange controls, growing protectionism and competitive restrictions on imports), an agreement on international exchange and finance centered on the International Monetary Fund (IMF), known as the Bretton Woods system, was concluded after World War II. With the goal of stabilizing exchange rates, it promoted the liberalization of trade and exchange, and an international cooperation system was created with the aim of developing world trade and the world economy, which was a remarkable success.
