Kaum - Kaum

...One of the basic concepts related to modern Arab politics and culture. Through the establishment and development of modern Arab nationalism, qawm has come to mean a "nation" formed on the basis of religion, language, and culture, while watan has come to refer to a "nation" formed historically and socially, and the "territory" as the place of their life and movement. The issue of Wataniya (Watanism) as a nationalism based on watan is particularly important to Egyptians and Palestinians.
