A town in Kishima County in central Saga Prefecture. Located in the lower reaches of the Rokkaku River, it is a rice-growing region. Yamaguchi, in the center, is the junction of the Nagasaki Main Line and the Sasebo Line. The Shin-Kishima coal mine, which was part of the Kishima coalfield, was located here, but it closed in 1969. Instead, the town has been bustling with the establishment of factories and mandarin orange orchards. Area: 24.49 km2 . Population: 9,515 (2010). 佐賀県中部,杵島(きしま)郡の町。六角川下流域にあり米作地帯をなす。中心の山口は長崎本線と佐世保線の分岐点。杵島炭田に属する新杵島炭鉱があったが,1969年閉山,代わって工場誘致やミカン園造成が活発。24.49km2。9515人(2010)。
