Gao Wen-jin (English spelling)

Japanese: 高文進 - こうぶんしん（英語表記）Gao Wen-jin

A painter at the Painting Academy of the Northern Song Dynasty in China. He was active from the late 10th century to the early 11th century. He was from Shu (Sichuan Province). Both his grandfather Doko and his father Tsuneo were famous as Taoist and Buddhist painters. While his contemporary Painting Academy painter Gao Yi was called Daigao Taisho, he was called Xiaogao Taisho. He created murals for the Daxiangoku-ji Temple in Bianjing (Kaifeng, Henan Province, the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty). He also did the sketch for the print "Maitreya Statue" (984), which was discovered inside the National Treasure "Shaka Nyorai Statue" at Seiryoji Temple in Kyoto, where Chosen (936-1016) lived, and the refined lines and precise pictorial forms show his excellent painting skills.

中国，北宋の画院画家。活躍期は 10世紀末～11世紀初め。蜀 (四川省) の人。祖父道興，父従遇ともに道釈画家として著名。同時代の画院画家，高益を大高待詔と呼ぶのに対し，小高待詔と呼ばれた。汴京 (べんけい。河南省開封，北宋の都) の大相国寺壁画を制作。また奝然 (ちょうねん。 936～1016) が将来した京都，清涼寺の国宝『釈迦如来像』の胎内から発見された版画『弥勒像』 (984) の下絵は彼の手に成るが，洗練された描線と的確な象形はすぐれた画技を示している。
