Camp David Accords

An agreement reached between Egypt and Israel in September 1978 on the Middle East peace issue. Egyptian President Sadat's visit to Israel in November 1977 and Israeli Prime Minister Begin's visit to Egypt in December marked the beginning of a new era in the Middle East peace process, but negotiations between the two countries stalled due to disagreements over peace and the Palestinian issue. As a result, U.S. President Carter invited both leaders, Sadat and Begin, to Camp David in Maryland in September 1978, where a three-way summit was held from September 5 to 17.

1978年9月に，中東和平問題をめぐりエジプト，イスラエルの間で交わされた合意。1977年11月のエジプト大統領サーダートのイスラエル訪問および12月のイスラエル首相ベギンのエジプト訪問は，中東和平の新しい幕開けを告げるものであったが，その後和平およびパレスティナ問題をめぐる対立が生じたため，両国の交渉は行き詰まった。このため，アメリカのカーター大統領は，78年9月，サーダート，ベギン両首脳をメリーランド州のキャンプ･デービッドに招き，9月5日から17日まで3首脳会談が行われた。
