金属でつくる繊維。装飾用の金糸，銀糸などは古くから使用されていた。現在では，複合材料の発達により繊維状材料が注目されるに及んで金属繊維製法も大きく進歩し，従来の塑性加工 (圧延など) のほか，溶融紡糸法，CVD法などが開発され，ステンレス，アルミニウム，鉄，ニッケル，銅などの金属糸が生産され，複合材，強化材，ろ過材や除電など特殊な部門で使用されている。
