Jasmine oil is an essential oil obtained from the white flowers of the Jasmine genus of the Oleaceae family. It is also called Jasmine oil. Jasmine is native to India and the Himalayas, but today it is widely cultivated in the Grasse region of southern France, Italy, Egypt, Morocco, and China. The flowers have a strong aromatic component, and the flowers are extracted with petroleum ether immediately after picking to make a 0.28-0.33% concrete, which is then treated with high-purity alcohol to obtain a 50-54% absolute (absolute flower essential oil). It has a fragrance similar to orange flowers and is important as a high-end blended fragrance. In China, jasmine flowers are used as a flavoring for Baozhong tea. The main aromatic component of this essential oil is benzyl acetate, and the characteristic component is cis-jasmone. This compound has recently been synthesized industrially.
