A trust that held a dominant influence in the German steel industry before World War II. Vereinigte Stahlwerke AG. In 1926, the four largest steel companies merged to form the Vereinigte Stahlwerke AG, which owned numerous coal mines, iron ore mines, and steelworks, and managed everything from raw materials to machinery manufacturing. Its annual steel production was 8 million tons, accounting for almost half of Germany's total. After World War II, it was broken up into 17 companies as part of the economic democratization policy of the Allied occupation forces.
