Chemiluminescence
Also called chemiluminescence. A luminescence phenomenon that accompanies a chemical reaction. It is a reaction that is the reverse of a photochemical reaction in which light advances a chemical reaction. Most chemiluminescence is blue in color. A typical example is the reaction in which an alkaline aqueous solution of luminol emits pale blue light when hydrogen peroxide is added in the presence of blood or iron salts. Chemiluminescence is cold light that does not involve heat.
