Kawachiyama Soshun

Japanese: 河内山宗春 - こうちやま そうしゅん
Kawachiyama Soshun
?-1823 A tea boy from the late Edo period.
He was arrested for blackmailing the Mito family's lottery, one of the three main families of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and died in prison on July 22, 1823. He became famous through the storyteller "Tenpo Rokkasen" by the second Shorin Hakuen, and the kabuki play "Kumonimago Ueno Hatsuhana" by Kawatake Mokuami. He was born in Edo. His name was Munetoshi, or something like that.

御三家水戸家の富くじをめぐる恐喝で捕らえられ,文政6年7月22日獄死したという。2代松林伯円(しょうりん-はくえん)の講談「天保六花撰(てんぽうろっかせん)」,河竹黙阿弥(かわたけ-もくあみ)の歌舞伎「天衣紛(くもにまごう)上野初花」によって有名になった。江戸出身。名は宗俊ともかく。
