He was arrested for blackmailing the Mito family's lottery, one of the three main families of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and died in prison on July 22, 1823. He became famous through the storyteller "Tenpo Rokkasen" by the second Shorin Hakuen, and the kabuki play "Kumonimago Ueno Hatsuhana" by Kawatake Mokuami. He was born in Edo.
