Sweepback angle

For swept-back or delta-wing aircraft, this is the angle that indicates the degree of wing sweep. For subsonic aircraft, this is the angle that a line that connects the leading edge to a point 1/4 of the wing chord length makes with the lateral axis perpendicular to the aircraft axis, and for supersonic aircraft, this is the angle that the leading edge line makes with the lateral axis. For subsonic aircraft with a flight Mach number of about 0.75 to 0.9, a sweep angle of 18° to 40° is used, and for supersonic aircraft with a Mach number of about 1.5 to 3, a leading edge sweep angle of about 50° to 70° is used.

後退翼または三角翼の航空機について，翼の後退の度合いを表す角度。亜音速機では，前縁から翼弦長の1/4の点を連ねる線が，機体の軸に垂直な左右軸となす角を，また超音速機では，前縁線が左右軸となす角をいう。飛行マッハ数が 0.75～0.9程度までの亜音速機では 18°～40°の後退角が，またマッハ数 1.5～3程度の超音速機では 50°～70°程度の前縁後退角が採用される。
