Japanese: 合成甘味料 - ごうせいかんみりょう

Chemically synthesized sweeteners. Examples include sorbitol, saccharin, cyclamate, dulcin, and aspartame. Because it is sweeter than sucrose, it is widely used in soft drinks and processed foods. Because it has a low sugar content and nutritional value, it was also used in diets for patients with diabetes and obesity, and in beauty foods. However, the harmful effects of taking large amounts have come to light, and the use of dulcin and cyclamate is now prohibited.

化学的に合成された甘味料。ソルビット，サッカリン，チクロ，ズルチン，アスパルテームなどがある。ショ糖に比べ甘味が強いため，清涼飲料，加工食品などに広く利用され，また糖分や栄養価が少ないため糖尿病や肥満症などの病人食や美容食にも使用されていたが，多量摂取による有害性が問題とされ，現在ズルチンおよびチクロの使用は禁止されている。
