Post-operative bleeding

Japanese: 後出血 - こうしゅっけつ

When an area that has already bled due to an injury or surgery starts bleeding again after a certain period of time. This term is also often used to describe postpartum bleeding. In general, bleeding is stopped when a blood clot forms and repairs the torn area of a blood vessel, or by tying the blood vessel artificially. However, if the blood clot comes off or the tying is loosened due to some cause such as an increase in blood pressure, the action of an external force, or infection, bleeding will occur again. This is called secondary hemorrhage, or subsequent bleeding.

外傷や手術の際に，一度出血した部分がある時間をおいて再び出血すること。産後の出血によく使われる言葉でもある。一般的には，出血は血液が凝固してできた血栓によって，血管の破れた部分が補修されたり，人為的にしばることによって止血する。しかし，血圧の上昇や外力の作用，感染など，なんらかの原因で血栓がとれたり，しばった部分がゆるむと，再び出血がおこる。これを後出血secondary hemorrhage，または続発出血という。
