〘Noun〙① A road that is narrow and the distance is short. Narrow road. Kouji. Komichi. [Li Kun-ok - Nanso Spring and Late Poem]② Under the ritsuryo system, this is the name of the road with the least amount of traffic. A road other than the Sanyo, Tosando, and Tokaido that requires the provision of five post horses at each station. *Ryo Gikai (718) - " Only two post horses should be provided on all roads. Twenty on main roads. Ten on middle roads. Five on alleys."③ A street that is second only to a main road in width. Divided into first and second class, first class alleys are at least four ken (approximately 7.3 meters) wide, and second class alleys are at least one and a half ken (approximately 2.7 meters) wide but less than four ken.
