Cochin

[1] (Cochin) A port city in the state of Kerala in the southwest of the Republic of India. After 1500, Cabral, Vasco da Gama and others arrived and built trading posts, making it a trading base for Portugal. In the 17th century, it became a Dutch colony, and in 1795 it became a British colony. It exported coconuts, spices, tea and other products. [2] [Noun] (cochin) A breed of chicken for meat. Native to China. Most of the feathers are yellowish brown, but some are white or black. They are characterized by a lot of feathers and leg hair, and their meat is excellent in both quality and quantity. They were imported to Japan around the beginning of the Meiji era, and varieties such as the Nagoya Cochin were created by crossbreeding with native breeds. When they were imported to Europe, they were mistakenly believed to be chickens from Cochinchina, and the abbreviation comes from that. Kukin (nine jin) . (Handbook of Foreign Languages (1912))
