…In 1929, Nippon Bemberg Silk Co., Ltd. was established to manufacture cuprammonium silk thread, using technology from the German company Bemberg. A factory was built next to the Nobeoka Factory (anticipating the use of ammonia from the factory as a raw material), and production began in 1931. In 1931, the Nobeoka Factory of Nitchitsu Fertilizer was separated to establish Nobeoka Ammonia Silk Co., Ltd. (the direct predecessor of Asahi Chemical Industry). In 1933, Asahi Silk and Nippon Bemberg Silk were merged to become Asahi Bemberg Silk Co., Ltd., becoming a major rayon company. In 1943, the company merged with Nippon Nitrogen Explosives Co., Ltd. (established in the suburbs of Nobeoka in 1930 to meet the active demand for explosives), consolidating the main divisions such as textiles, chemicals, and plastics, and changing the company name to Nippon Nitrogen Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. …
