Carp Catching - Koi Tsukami

Japanese: 鯉つかみ - こいつかみ
Carp Catching - Koi Tsukami
A type of Kabuki kyogen. It is a general term for works that have as their theme the hero struggling with a carp spirit in the water. It was welcomed as a style of summer kyogen using real water. As written in Misuya Nisoji's "Kamizubukago" (Paper Waste Basket), "The first use of artificial carp in a water boat began with the founder Kikugoro, who passed it on to Baiko (Kikugoro III)." It was originally passed down as the "family art" of the Onoe family. As for the script, Fukumori Kyusuke and Segawa Jyoko II wrote "Mijika Yokina no Chirashigaki" (Short Night Vengeance Dispersal Book), which premiered at the Nakamura Theater in July 1813 (Bunka 10), the carpenter Rokusaburo of Kikugoro III is famous for performing the carp catcher in the "Masaki Inari Scene."
