European agricultural calendars vary considerably depending on geographical location (north/south) and on differences in farming and livestock areas, but below we will provide an outline of the calendar for England up until around the 16th century. The new fiscal year begins with Michaelmas (September 29th), the day when all harvest work is completed. This custom is still followed today.
