Years of birth: Dates of birth and death unknown. A shrine official in the mid-Heian period, he built the foundation for the development of the Yoshida family, which later became the head family of Yuitsu Shinto. According to the "Urabe Genealogy," he was the grandson of Toyomune, the shrine official of the Jingikan, who was the son of Hiramaro, who is said to have split off from the Fujiwara clan and was the ancestor of the Urabe clan. In 949 (Tenryaku 3), he inherited the position of Hirano Shrine Chief from his father Yoshimasa, and at the same time, from the Urabe clan belonging to the Jingikan, he served as Chugu Shrine Chief, Togu Shrine Chief, and then Omiyasu for the second emperor, Enyu, and Ichijo. In 1001 (Chōhō 3), he became the deputy shrine official of the Jingikan, starting the custom of the descendants of the family progressing to the position of deputy shrine official of the Jingikan. He is sometimes called Yoshida Kanenobu, but at the time he was Hirano Shrine Chief, and the Yoshida Shrine Chief came about during the Kamakura period. The use of the shrine name Yoshida as a family name began during the Muromachi period. Kanenobu was also believed by the late Muromachi period Shintoist Yoshida Kanetomo to be the author of the Yuitsu Shinto Myohyoshu (the central document of Yuitsu Shinto).
