A landlocked state in the midwest of Brazil. Area: 341,289 km2, population: 4,308,400 (1995), population density: 12.6/km2. State capital: Goiânia. The average annual temperature is between 19 and 26°C, the annual precipitation is around 1,300 mm, and there is a clear dry season from May to October, during which the sclerophyll of the Cerrado's twisted shrubs lose their leaves.
