...The peninsula divides the Kara Sea to the west and the Laptev Sea to the east, and the Severnaya Zemlya Islands lie to the north of the peninsula, separated by the Birikitsky Strait. The peninsula is over 1,000 km long and stretches east-northeast. In the center, the Gory Byrranga Mountains, mainly composed of metamorphic rocks, rise, with the highest point being Mount Rednikovaya at 1,146 m, and a glacier hangs over the mountain near its summit. In the central-western part, the 250 km long Lake Taymyr is frozen over except in midsummer.
