Amarillo (English spelling)

Japanese: アマリロ(英語表記)Amarillo
Amarillo (English spelling)
A city in northwest Texas, United States. It is located in a region that juts out between Oklahoma and New Mexico. The name Amarillo probably comes from a Spanish word meaning "yellow," which is characteristic of the clay deposits found in the area. Agriculture, mainly wheat, became popular around 1900, and the oil and natural gas industries grew rapidly in the 1920s. The city and surrounding areas are home to a government helium plant, an air force base, a military prison, and nuclear power companies. West Texas State University (established in 1910) is also located here. Population: 190,695 (2010).
